The Company
Wild-about-Wales is a young and exciting walking company based in the heart of beautiful Snowdonia in North Wales. North Wales is an area rich in history and culture, and the Snowdonia National Park is home to some of the UK's most spectacular mountain scenery, including Snowdon, the highest peak in the UK outside of Scotland.
 |
The dramatic scenery has inspired many poets and authors including J.R. Tolkein who based the Mountains of Mordor in "The Lord of the Rings" on the skyline of the Snowdon range. The area offers incomparable hiking for all abilities and spectacular views across the hills and coastlines towards Ireland, Anglesey, and the Lake District.
The company is owned and managed by Cathy Popkin, herself a qualified mountain leader. She is passionate about the area and the company was set up in order to share this unique and wonderful corner of the UK with others.
The company is fully insured and all the trips are fully graded to give an indication of difficulty. The guides are fully qualified and keen to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with those who have yet to discover this relatively unvisited part of the British Isles.
We offer trips ranging from days to whole weeks, covering walking throughout the park, and the local culture and history. For a full and fascinating look at Snowdonia and it's surroundings look no further than Wild-about-Wales and we will aim to exceed your expectations and fulfil your dreams for a memorable and rewarding trip. |
Cathy Popkin was born in Wales, and after travelling around the UK has now returned to her beloved Snowdonia. She has many years of hill walking and mountaineering experience, ranging from the UK to the Himalayas, but her heart lies in North Wales, amongst the beautiful mountains of Snowdonia.
Cathy is a qualified mountain leader and she spent last summer guiding in the hills of Scotland and Wales. Her enthusiasm and love of trekking has led her to set up Wild-about-Wales so that she can share these beautiful hills with others. She brings a wealth of experience to the company, having climbed Kilimanjaro, Mera Peak, and Mont Blanc amongst others, as well as a great deal of walking in all parts of the UK. Cathy is interested in all aspects of the hills from the geology to the wildlife, and is keen to pass this knowledge on to others in order to enhance the total experience of walking in Wales.

Trips
Wild-about-Wales aims to provide a variety of trips to suit all tastes and abilities. Both the long weekends and the week trips give a choice of daily walking or combining walking with some visits to some of the best cultural sites North Wales has to offer. Each trip is graded according to the length and difficulty of the walks. Some of the treks offer a choice of routes and these will be decided as the trip progresses according to the weather and the needs of the group.
The treks can be quite challenging and are described in more detail in the tour descriptions. However they are all very rewarding and in clear weather offer spectacular views that can cover all four countries of the UK.
If you cannot find a trip to suit you, it may be possible subject to numbers and guide availability to provide a tailor made trip to ensure your desired walks are covered.

Hill walking experience is recommended for all trips, although not strictly necessary. All tours operate with a minimum of 4 people and maximum of 8 people.
